Lord, help me look ahead. It's time to look ahead.
Help me to turn my attention away from the things that have already passed and direct my focus toward the things that are yet to be.
I've spent too much time looking back.
I have spent too much time dwelling on the things that I cannot change.
I have spent too little time on the opportunities that lay ahead.

The Curse of Life without Pain
by Rubel Shelly
Because pain is what it is, we go to great lengths to avoid it. I should have been smart enough to put on kneepads two weeks ago, when I was working on concrete for several hours on all fours. I'm still getting over it.

Never Complain, Never Explain
Quite a number of years ago, I stumbled across a phrase in a magazine that really piqued my interest. The phrase simply said "never complain, never explain." From the moment I read it, those four words really hit home with me. To my way of thinking, they summed up the philosophy of all winners. A winner should never waste his or her valuable time complaining or making excuses.
I decided to tape a piece of paper containing this phrase to a wall in my office along with an accompanying challenge. As soon as I went an entire day without voicing a complaint or offering up an excuse, I could take the message down.

Carrot, Egg or Coffee
A young woman went to her grandmother and told her about her life and how things were so hard for her. She did not know how she was going to make it and wanted to give up. She was tired of fighting and struggling. It seemed as one problem was solved, a new one would pop up.
Her grandmother took her to the kitchen. She filled three pots with water and placed each on a high fire, and soon the pots came to boil. In the first pot she placed carrots, in the second she placed eggs, and in the last she placed ground coffee beans. She let them sit and boil; without saying a word. In about twenty minutes she turned off the burners. She fished the carrots out and placed them in a bowl. She pulled the eggs out and placed them in a bowl. Then she ladled the coffee out and placed it in a bowl.

A Story of Appreciation
One young academically excellent person went to apply for a managerial position in a big company.
He passed the first interview, the director did the last interview, made the last decision.
The director discovered from the CV that the youth's academic achievements were excellent all the way,
from the secondary school until the postgraduate research, never had a year when he did not score good grades.
The director asked, "Did you obtain any scholarships in school?" the youth answered "None."
