Are you an Angel?
This was written by a Metro Denver Hospice Physician:
I was driving home from a meeting this evening about 5 pm, stuck in traffic on Colorado Blvd., and the car started to choke, sputter and die - I barely managed to coast into a gas station, glad only that I would not be blocking traffic and have a somewhat warm spot to wait for the tow truck It wouldn't even turn over.
Before I could make the call, I saw a woman walking out of the 'quickie mart' building, and it looked like she slipped on some ice and fell into a Gas pump, so I got out to see if she was okay.
When I got there, it looked more like she had been overcome by sobs than that she had fallen; she was a young woman who looked really haggard with dark circles under her eyes. She dropped something as I helped her up, and I picked it up to give it to her. It was a nickel.
At that moment, everything came into focus for me: the crying woman, the ancient Suburban crammed full of stuff with 3 kids in the back (1 in a car seat), and the gas pump reading $4.95.
I asked her if she was okay and if she needed help, and she just kept saying 'I don't want my kids to see me crying,' so we stood on the other side of the pump from her car. She said she was driving to California and that things were very hard for her right now. So I asked, 'And you were praying?' That made her back away from me a little, but I assured her I was not a crazy person and said, 'He heard you, and He sent me.'
I took out my card and swiped it through the card reader on the pump so she could fill up her car completely, and while it was fuelling, walked to the next door McDonald's and bought 2 big bags of food, some gift certificates for more, and a big cup of coffee.
She gave the food to the kids in the car, who attacked it like wolves, and we stood by the pump eating fries and talking a little.
She told me her name, and that she lived in Kansas City Her boyfriend left 2 months a go and she had not been able to make ends meet. She knew she wouldn't have money to pay rent Jan 1, and finally, in desperation, had called her parents, with whom she had not spoken in about 5 years. They lived in California and said she could come live with them and try to get on her feet there.
So she packed up everything she owned and put it in the car. She told the kids they were going to California to see their grandparents for Christmas, but not that they were going to live there.
I gave her my gloves, a little hug and said a quick prayer with her for safety on the road. As I was walking over to my car, she said, 'So, are you like an angel or something?'
This definitely made me cry. I said, 'Sweetie, at this time of year angels are really busy, so sometimes God uses regular people.'
It was so incredible to be a part of someone else's miracle. And of course, you guessed it, when I got in my car it started right away and got me home with no problem. I'll put it in the shop tomorrow to check, but I suspect the mechanic won't find anything wrong.
Sometimes the angels fly close enough to you that you can hear the flutter of their wings...
Psalms 55:22 'Cast thy burden upon the Lord, and He shall sustain thee. He shall never suffer the righteous to be moved.'

Use Occam's Razor. There are no gods or angels, real people help other real people, no gods evident or required. Your story is touching, but when you slice out all the unevidence fluff, you have just one human helping another, brought together by coincidence, nothing else.
ReplyDeleteHi! At first, I wanted to reject your comment, because I totally object to what you just said... but then, I want to take it as an opportunity to explain to you that you wouldn't be in this world if there is no God...
ReplyDeleteMay you find Him deep in your heart...
Thanks for dropping by and God bless you.
There is no such thing as coincidence. What people call coincidence is just their rationalization for God's work. Because the term coincidence means that there's no reason that something happened, it just did.
ReplyDeleteoh my, people applying Occams razor like a factbook again.
ReplyDeleteThis is such an awesome comment! I got the chills and tears came to my eyes. God bless you for being someone's angel, and for simply listening to Him when He spoke to you.
ReplyDelete"oh my, people applying Occams razor like a factbook again"
ReplyDeleteOccam's Razr isn't a factbook, it's a test. It's also a very good test, when the actual facts are unknown, as in the case of this story.
This is a peice of creative writing. Whether it's true or not, or any portion of it is true, has yet to be established.
This story ahs been circulated around the internet for quite some time. As is with all these types of stories, the person who posted it here was not the originator. We don't know who did originate it. We don't knwo if it ever happened at all, or whether the supernatural portions were added for effect, or whether they were added due to the vagaries of human perception or wishful thinking.
Is it more likely that God caused a car to stall in order to make someone do a good deed? Or is it more likely that in the world of millions of possible meetings a day, one of those possibilities was these two? Or is it more likely that someone just wrote this feel good Christmas story, in line with hundreds of otherfeel god Christmas stories that are acknowledged fiction?
That's how Occam's Razor is applied, and as such it's a very useful tool in determining liklihood.
Remember the title of this blog is "forwarded messages" whcih, by their very nature, are 99.9% pure crap.
Shit happens because of a reason, every time. You were in there because you car screwed up. She was because her life screwed up. You were being a very, very nice person to act like that, and the God thing only bumped it up. I commend you, and I don't care about the fact this is religious malarky. Just a nice gesture.
ReplyDeletenice story
ReplyDeleteI don't understand... If there were no gods then you would not have helped this woman?
ReplyDeleteOccams razor really? Are talking about the religion for atheist?
ReplyDeleteBeautiful story, beautiful God. That's life.
ReplyDeletewhy did 'god' not intervene earlier, help her make ends meet instead of uprooting the entire family and moving them halfway across the country?
ReplyDeleteI have no idea what Occams razor is.. and, apparently, I don't want to. I was once in the young mother, of this story, shoes.. and, it was through the kindness of everyday people, sent by God, to help me that brought me back into His fold. Praise God, and Merry Christmas.
ReplyDeleteJesus IS the reason for the season
Praying for you right now Anonymous.
ReplyDeletei'm emo, and i use occams razor on my wrists.. lol, just kidding, but amazing story.. very uplifting
ReplyDeleteHumans helping humans is always inspiring and brings happiness to both parties involved. You don't need to bring God in the mix to do good deeds :)
ReplyDeleteI had a brother hooked on drugs. I prayed for years for someone to help him. Anyone that did was used by my brother. I helped him as well. What I got in return was him stealing my money and credit cards, ruining my credit. He eventually hung himself all alone. But I prayed for him the whole time.
ReplyDeleteI prayed for my dad to come back when he died when I was 11. I prayed for help for my mom. No one helped. Relatives pretended we didn't exist after that.
Pretty much everything I prayed for ended in disappointment. Once I realized that there is no god, things like this did not bother me so much. Now I still help out people in need whenever I can, but god didn't tell me to...
Be ready with a meal or a bed when it's needed. Why, some have extended hospitality to angels without ever knowing it! (Hebrews 13:2 MSG)
ReplyDeleteHumans and angels are not same, yet we share a common task, and that is to spread goodness and love to all. We are here to bring God's love and grace.
When He called us to be His messenger, we should embrace and celebrate that opportunity.
Just stubled upon your side.
ReplyDeleteWhat an amazing story! God is truly great
I pity those that do not believe in these types of things happening. How empty your lives must be to have no hope for life after this life.
ReplyDeleteI am an atheist myself but I have to ask, who are you people to try and take this away from believers? In this case, the person's faith inspired them to do good. Even if the story is a work of fiction, there is some value to that. When religion is destructive and hateful, by all means contradict it. But I say to all my fellow non-believers, pick your battles and leave this one alone.
ReplyDeleteIt is a wonderful story and I am grateful that I came across it. Thank you.
Funny how dumb stories make people feel good about believing dumb things.
ReplyDeleteSometimes its only in desperate situations like these that we are able to appreciate righteous acts. I find it disgusting that people are trying to take God out of such an equation. I find it sickening that people blame this man's only motive to satisfy God as well. Everything is interwoven. Righteous acts are righteous. Some people learn to truly love one another through their faith. Its not the case that religious people are eager for heaven and a reward. Religious people are eager for a relationship with their ultimate father. Just like your own father or fatherly figure guided you through life. He taught you about life in his own manner. All of the people around you who have helped you form your moral standard are, in the eyes of some, children of God. I have no problem with aethiests, but I'm so done with people trolling on God.
ReplyDeleteNobody said that the story couldn't have happened, just that it didn't have to be divinely inspired to happen.
ReplyDeleteGreat story, aside from one part.
ReplyDeleteOpen your eyes people. There is no 'God', there is no afterlife, there is no reason for these irrational ideas to be perpetuated in the /modern/ world.
This is a world where FACTS and OBSERVATIONS must be taken over FAITH and FEAR. If you want to live in a world of the past, worshiping a God who doesn't exist, his son (originally a mythical man, inspired by three myths that are extremely similar to his own story), and a ghost... you are delusional.
I'm glad that my parents never forced their faith on me as a child, and let me make my own conclusions about the world. Without being indoctrinated into this evil and hateful Christianity that seems so popular today. I give it 100, maybe 200 more years. Eventually the educated will win the war, and religions will be frowned upon as secularism is today.
Good luck on your journey towards rationality, I wish you all the best and hope some day, some day, you find the Truth.
The fool hath said in his heart, "There is no God." Psalm 14:1
ReplyDeleteI believe that God does give us enough evidence to discover the Truth through facts and observations. Can you honestly say that Jesus never existed? There is historical evidence as well as eye witness accounts that verify that Jesus lived. As to Christianity dying in 100-200 years, I guess we will never know whether it survives, but I do believe that the world will come to a point where people will become more hostile towards Christianity. As to Christianity being evil and hateful, I think that this story has demonstrated quite the opposite. Having faith in God is what inspires Christians to do good in the world. It is only through faith in Jesus that you will ever feel truly fulfilled and satisfied.
ReplyDeleteHowever, you are entitled to your own opinions about religion and the world and who am I to try to change your mind? I hope you find fulfillment in your search for the Truth.
This story is fucking gay
ReplyDeleteThis story is beautiful. It's beautiful because of the person's kind act, but also because of the faith they had in God. You might say everything was just a coincidence, and condemn this story, but i would much rather believe it was something God led them to.
ReplyDeleteI agree, that there will come a time when christians are looked down upon and hated with a ferocity unimaginable. But true christians during that time will not be hostile to those others but rather have an outlook on society through Jesus' eyes. And this story is just an example of what happens when christians really act out through christianity.
It's a nice story but unfortunately probably not true, it started as one of those forward-it-around chain emails in 2005. Doesn't matter though, we all know how much Christians just love inspirational heart warming fiction.
ReplyDelete"Good luck on your journey towards rationality, I wish you all the best and hope some day, some day, you find the Truth."
ReplyDeleteI like how you capitalized the T in "Truth." And I have found Truth in Jesus Christ.
As for your rationality statement, it is more rational to say that we were created with a purpose, rather than because of some freak accident that involved life coming from no life.
I would like to discuss is the absolute absurdity of the atheist. A valid logical world view answers 7 key questions. What is the Prime reality (ultimate power) what is the material reality ( what is the universe made of) what are humans; what happens when we die, what is the meaning of human history, is the universe a closed circuit or open, and how do we know right from wrong. Let us assess what the Christian world view answers and what the atheist world view answers.
ReplyDeleteChristianity
What is the prime reality?
The prime reality is an all knowing and all powerful deity. He is beyond space and time yet is also personal. He is 3 and 1 one being at the same time. While no one knows the true nature of this interaction one theory is that it works on a 3 dimensional level. Take a man praying. He is able to pray to God because of Jesus who in is connected to the man and God through the Holy Spirit.
What is the material reality?
The world is made of sub atomic particles.
What are Humans?
Humans are beings made in God’s image. That being that we, like God have 3 separate distinct parts yet are all still one. We have a mind, a body and spirit.
What happens when we die?
We are judged by God and go to either heaven or hell.
What is the meaning of human history?
To glorify God.
Is the universe an open or closed circuit?
It is an open system with a closed circuit. This meaning that while there is variations as to what happens on the earth like divine intervention the end result is the same. (Judgment day)
How do we know right from wrong?
God has instilled in us the knowledge of good and evil.
Now let us look at the atheist answers.
What is the prime reality?
There is none.
What is the material reality?
The world is made of sub atomic particles.
What are humans?
We are evolved primates that specialize in producing thoughts through chemical reactions. (The brain produces thoughts like the gall bladder produces bile.)
What happens when we die?
Nothing.
What is the meaning of human history?
There is none.
Is the universe a closed circuit or open circuit?
It is a closed circuit and closed system. This means nothing can change and we have no control over our fate.
How do we know right from wrong?
There is no right or wrong. In the atheist world there is no difference between pour boiling water on a man’s head and pouring him a cup of tea.
Like communism Atheism sounds good on the surface but 5 minutes of scrutiny make the whole structure fall apart. In the atheist view we have no original thoughts. Thoughts are simply chemical reactions happening in our head. Therefore the fact that an atheist can argue his point is proof that his view does not work because thought is just a random chemical reaction remember? Also in the atheist view there is no wrong. If I kill a man it is not my fault because not only is there no right or wrong but I also have no control over my actions because I am simply genetically predisposed to murder people because of my chemical reactions. Oh and lest we forget that we are in a closed circuit and closed system therefore the fact that I murdered someone is irrelevant because it would have happened no matter what anyone did. Another flaw is the fact that every single culture on the planet have noted the existence of an afterlife specifically ghost. The existence of ghost is proof of the afterlife therefore disproving yet another atheist argument and belief. Also with no prime reality this means that “in the beginning there was nothing… then nothing exploded.”
So take it from the real scientist/philosopher the knowledge of God’s existence is well established. The atheist movement is just propaganda put out to achieve heaven know what political agenda it is this time. Take it from the real thinkers and become a real thinker yourself and you will see the absolute absurdity of the atheist.
Just stumbled upon your site. Great story very inspiring. To those who quote the razor and preach disbelief and faith in fact, i pity you. You criticize Christians for believing in something you assume to be false, and you say we have no proof for Him. Honestly we have so much more proof saying that He does exist, than saying He doesn't. All you have is a couple of opinions developed by man. I mean even the theory of evolution is now getting heat saying it could be false. That was the main argument for a while against God. Now it's taking heat and you find another reason to use against Him. Then, that one will fail and you'll find yet another reason. They all seem to fail and yet you don't see Christians changing their reasons. Not, because of ignorance and the lack of intuition and curiosity, but because we feel it and we know He is there. We see it in the fact that people who come from the hardest walks of life, still grow up and learn to love each other. We know because of love and how it lies in each and every one of us. Love is our constant reason. Love is what makes us believe, because love is God.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful story. I'm so happy that God used you in this way. He's got a habit of working things out like that. Thank you for being open to be used by Him and for your heart for others.
ReplyDeleteGod bless!
A similar thing happened to me once with a tiny Nun in a gas station who mouthed the words "help me" when I pulled up. I didn't even see it but my daughter did. She was being accosted by someone and was afraid. I won't go into the details.
ReplyDeleteThe comments are a sad testimony to how many miserable, ignorant souls walk the earth. It's why our country is a cold, hard, heartless place that slaughters innocent children and foments hate and division at every turn.
Occam's razor indeed.
