When You Need Wisdom

If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking. I think sometimes that I don't understand anything about prayer. I pray a lot, mind you. It's just that I don't understand a great deal about it. I sometimes pray for good things, and they don't come. At other times, I pray for myself or others to be spared bad things, yet they still happen. How does prayer work? How do I know what to pray for? Do questions such as these ever bother you? Maybe at least part of our problem is in praying for wrong things. If that is the case, then I can certainly begin to see how praying could be confusing. When we are wrong-headed in what we ask, we can hardly blame God for failing to answer. Let me try to make sense of what I am struggling to say. Back in the earliest days of the church, Peter and John were called before the religious authorities of Jerusalem. Prayer of Ruth

This is a story written by a doctor who worked in Africa . One night I had worked hard to help a mother in the labor ward; but in spite of all we could do, she died, leaving us with a tiny, premature baby and a crying two-year-old daughter. We would have difficulty keeping the baby alive; as we had no incubator (we had no electricity to run an incubator). We also had no special feeding facilities. Although we lived on the equator, nights were often chilly with treacherous drafts. One student midwife went for the box we had for such babies and the cotton wool that the baby would be wrapped in. Another went to stoke up the fire and fill a hot water bottle. She came back shortly in distress to tell me that in filling the bottle, it had burst (rubber perishes easily in tropical climates)...

An unemployed graduate woke up one morning and checked his pocket. All he had left was $10. He decided to use it to buy food and then wait for death as he was too proud to go begging.. He was frustrated as he could find no job, and nobody was ready to help him. He bought food and as he sat down to eat, an old man and two little children came along and asked him to help them with food as they had not eaten for almost a week. He looked at them. They were so lean that he could see their bones coming out. Their eyes had gone into the socket. With the last bit of compassion he had, he gave them the food. The old man and children prayed that God would bless and prosper him and then gave him a very old coin. The young graduate said to them 'you need the prayer more than I do.' The Sack Lunches

I put my carry-on in the luggage compartment and sat down in my assigned seat. It was going to be a long flight. 'I'm glad I have a good book to read. Perhaps I will get a short nap,' I thought. Just before take-off, a line of soldiers came down the aisle and filled all the vacant seats, totally surrounding me. I decided to start a conversation. 'Where are you headed?' I asked the soldier seated nearest to me. 'Petawawa. We'll be there for two weeks for special training, and then we're being deployed to Afghanistan.' After flying for about an hour, an announcement was made that sack lunches were available for five dollars. It would be several hours before we reached the east, and I quickly decided a lunch would help pass the time... As I reached for my wallet, I overheard a soldier ask his buddy if he planned to buy lunch. 'No, that seems like a lot of money for just a sack lunch. Probably wouldn't be worth five bucks. I'll wait...

A Fresh Start

"If you wake up breathing, you have another chance." I was able to make a fresh start recently. It felt so good to be able to put all of those past mistakes behind me. It felt so wonderful to be able to look towards the future with clear eyes and a clean heart. It felt so glorious to greet the new day with a peaceful mind and a joyful soul.   I didn’t get my fresh start by moving to another town, however. I didn’t get it by starting a new job. I didn’t get it by going on vacation. I didn’t get it by buying something either. I didn’t get it by changing the world around me at all. Those types of changes never work anyway. You can’t clean your house by sweeping the sidewalk, after all.   How did I get my fresh start then? Why, I simply opened my eyes this morning. You see, everyday of our lives can be a fresh start if we wish. No matter where we are...

Jesus is only a prayer away. A clerk who helped me purchase a small digital voice recorder told me that he kept one just like it in his car when he worked in California. “When I began driving home after work I switched it on,” he said, “and I talked about everything that happened that day on the job, good and bad. When I pulled into my driveway, I hit the erase button.” Then he smiled. After telling everything to his voice recorder, he apparently had no need to go over the day’s problems with his wife or family. It reminded me of how often I needlessly rehearse my disappointments and problems to others instead of telling them to God. The psalmist wrote: “Trust in Him at all times, you people; pour out your heart before Him; God is a refuge for us” (Ps. 62:8). Twice he spoke of waiting silently for God, his rock and salvation (vv.1-2,5-7). Saying GRACE in a restaurant

Last week, I took my children to a restaurant. My six-year-old son asked if he could say grace.   As we bowed our heads he said, "God is good, God is great. Thank you for the food, and I would even thank you more if Mom gets us ice cream for dessert. And Liberty and justice for all! Amen!"   Along with the laughter from the other customers nearby, I heard a woman remark, "That's what's wrong with this country. Kids today don't even know how to pray. Asking God for ice cream! Why, I never!"   Hearing this, my son burst into tears and asked me, "Did I do it wrong? Is God mad at me?" As I held him and assured him that he had done a terrific job, and God was certainly not mad at him, an elderly gentleman approached the table. IT IS REAL! have them living around us and in our neighborhood TODAY! we can change it with PRAYERS, and always lending a helping hand to those in need. dont keep this for yourself... FORWARD it to your friends, so our friends and all people will THANK GOD for the food and water that they ALREADY HAVE. This is one more reason why we have to THANK GOD for the food that we can have easily. But in the other hand... ironically. we still WASTE the food that we buy. LET US ALL BE GRATEFUL for what WE HAVE today... We are so BLESSED for the wonderful works of GOD's HANDS in our life. just think of this. . . arent we fortunate to live in this part of the world and not on their side? how many food have we wasted? when it doesnt matched your tastebuds... what did you do? the water is pouring out from the faucet... who cares? its unlimited, BOTTOMLESS... right?!? PRAYER POWER

A voyaging ship was wrecked during a storm at sea and only two of the men on it were able to swim to a small, desert like island. The two survivors, not knowing what else to do, agreed that they had no other recourse but to pray to God. However, to find out whose prayer was more powerful, they agreed to divide the territory between them and stay on opposite sides of the island. The first thing they prayed for was food. The next morning, the first man saw a fruit-bearing tree on his side of the land, and he was able to eat its fruit. The other man's parcel of land remained barren. last week, i dreamt of a new born baby... it was just a dream yet seems very real. the picture was so clear. i can remember every details... at first, the baby was so tiny, and so reddish... i still have in mind the close up picture of her cheeks and small eyes. then, in the next day she gained weight, almost double her size and she was lying in a hospital bed. i even ask why not in a crib? then somebody said, "she wants her feet up..." then i woke up. that dream was so strange... i was bothered. i even thought that my sister - in - law might be pregnant again... i researched in dreammoods.com... read some dream interpretations. but i wasnt convinced. yesterday, i was waiting for my nephew, derick, to be online. its been a week since we chatted. and i asked my cousin to call him... i waited. fifteen minutes maximum to turn on the PC and be online. almost 30 minutes passed. his YM is still off. i buzzed my cousin again. then he said: something happened. me: what? accident who?...
